to voice the machine
Co-Composed with Robyn Jacob
Thinking from the pipe organ’s history of imitating the human voice in the ‘Vox Humana’ stop, this work crafts a sonic language which encircles the organ and voice together in ways that blur the boundaries between the mechanical and organic. Incorporating computer control and feedback processes between the voice and the organ, a digital poetics is explored which reimagines the relationship between organ and choral music and reflects on the limits of imitation in a world filled with machine voices.
